To eat or not to eat, That is the question... NOT in MY kitchen

When I cook dinner I serve two veggies. If you eat dinner then you HAVE to try both veggies. If you like them then eat all you want and if you do not like them then just having one or two bites will do. My son is an extremely picky eater but he still needs healthy food. I do not use the CLEAN YOUR PLATE method at our dinner table. With a family of obese people I feel that would be a horrible habit to create in my children. Instead I use "eat until you are full but TRY a bite of everything." So when dinner time comes around and there is a vegetable he does not like he will ask me how much he has to eat. It depends on the veggie... cut up carrots will probably turn into, "eat 4 carrots" while spinach would be "eat one big bite." Let me say that my 7 year old does not enjoy eating them, and sometimes he gags for a second while trying to swallow but he eats them WITHOUT arguing about it. He listens to me and he knows that one bite won't take but a second to eat. I am not traumatizing my child and he is kind of getting nutrition in him. Now, this can not be said about our 15 year old. He refused to eat spinach, not even 1 single bite. It turned into an actual argument between him and John. He finally said that he did take his one bite but I don't think he did. He mixed it up with his other food so you could not tell whether some was missing or not. He called his mother and she called John and said not to force him to eat anything he doesn't like. I am sorry but she talked to the wrong person. While John runs this house I run my kitchen. I decide what to cook at night and I fix the plates. You TRY what is served or you DO NOT eat anything. Same rule applies to everyone in this house. If the youngest kids don't want something they must try it or go hungry. Even I try them and I am a picky eater. I actually ate some hominy the other day and lemme tell you I hate that stuff. I fix things I don't like though because my family deserves variety. Now, I do fix corn most nights but that is because it is something everyone in the house will eat. But MY kitchen MY rules!!! TRY EVERYTHING OR EAT NOTHING!!!!!
